The Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper (QWEL) certification is an EPA WaterSense labeled program. It provides landscape professionals with 20 hours of education on principles of proper plant selection for the local climate, irrigation system design and maintenance, and irrigation system programming and operation. Through this hands-on course, professionals will understand the particular characteristics of their clients' sites and plants, thus maximizing the use of limited water resources and helping clients save on their water bill. Please sign up at least a week in advance to ensure you receive your books in time for the course.

California native gardens are extremely rewarding for their beauty and habitat value and can be low maintenance, but all gardens require the right maintenance at the right time. Native gardens are not more difficult to maintain but have some different maintenance tricks than more traditional home gardens. Additionally, proper installation and care in the first couple years of a new native garden are critical for setting yourself up for long term success.
Attendance of the 9/28/18 Introduction to California Native Gardens and Garden Design class highly encouraged, but not required.
In this workshop we will cover:
• Preparing your site for a California native garden
• Irrigation approaches for native gardens
• Laying out your plants
• Care during the establishment phase
• Ongoing maintenance
