Learn by doing, and help the Waterwise Community Center keep our public demonstration gardens in top shape by joining our garden volunteer team!
The garden volunteer team meets on the fourth Saturday of each month from 9:00AM-12:00PM and is an important part of how we keep our demonstration plantings looking great for our visitors.
Each session starts with a brief 15-20 minute demonstration or discussion led by Waterwise Community Center staff about a topic of seasonal landscape maintenance. Following that, volunteers will work under staff supervision in teams, helping with garden maintenance. Some weeks we will be pruning, some weeks we will be weeding, some weeks we will be spreading mulch, and every week we will be learning and having fun!
Volunteers are asked to commit to helping at a minimum of six volunteer sessions per year and need to register in advance by making an appointment to come in to the Waterwise Community Center to fill out release paper work.
If you are interested in registering or would like more information, please contact Dave Schroeder, Facilities and Operations Manager, at email@example.com or (909) 267-3221.
Volunteers in this program must be 18 years of age or over. Volunteers in this program must be able to do physical work in the garden and must not have medical restrictions that prevent them from doing so. If you would like to volunteer with the Waterwise Community Center, but a less physical task is better for you, please still contact Scott Kleinrock. We often have special projects we need help with!
Volunteers should arrive ready for outdoor work. Closed toe shoes are mandatory. Please bring a hat, sunglasses, sunblock, a water bottle, and your own gloves (if you don't want to borrow gloves from our shared basket). We will provide all training and tools needed.
We welcome volunteers of all gardening experience levels - no previous experience is needed! We will all have fun learning together.
If you are a middle or high school student who wants to volunteer with us, please fill out this interest form.
