Join us to learn about the process & rebates to help make it happen!\n \n*SIGN UPS DOWN BELOW*\n \nWhether you are starting with a lawn\, a “lawn\,” dirt\, or a patch of weeds\, in this workshop we will teach you the basics you need to know to start planning your landscape transformation! \nConverting your yard to a vibrant and low water landscape can seem intimidating\, but we are here to help.  \nIn this workshop\, you will learn: \n\nwhy a waterwise landscape can do more for you than your old yard ever did\nbasics of creating a plan and resources to help.\nhow to apply for eligible rebates in Southern California for landscape transformation and other rebate and installation programs\nbasics of turf removal and project preparation\nbasics of understanding what changes may be needed to your irrigation system\nadvice on project planning and the best times of year to remove lawn and plant\nadvice on choosing and hiring a contractor\nother sources of information to help you on your next steps\n\nEach participant will be able to select a native wildflower seed packet of their choice to take home. \nAfter the workshop concludes\, for those who wish to stay\, we will be offering a raffle give-away of some of our favorite waterwise California native plants. In this workshop\, we will explore a new and approachable way to develop designs for beautiful\, productive\, habitat rich\, and maintainable landscape projects. \nWhether you plan to do the work yourself or work with a contractor\, this workshop will help you come up with a clear vision for your outdoor spaces. The principles you will learn will apply to any space and any style! \nWe will cover: \n\nProject Planning and Concept Development\nSite Analysis\nGoal-Setting\, and Using Goals to Drive Design\nConceptual and Detailed Design\nBasics of Habitat Design for Humans and Beneficial Wildlife\nBasics of Design for Capturing Rainwater\nDeveloping a Plant Palette\nBasic Planting Design\nConstruction Planning\n\nEach participant will be able to select a native wildflower seed packet of their choice to take home. \nAfter the workshop concludes\, for those who wish to stay\, we will be offering a raffle give-away of some of our favorite waterwise California native plants. Scott has been working in horticulture for 20 years\, focused on both the design and ongoing care of sustainable native or edible landscapes in Southern California at the residential and public garden scales. DESCRIPTION:Adding a consistent source of clean water to any yard will draw songbirds and provide them with a hard-to-find and essential resource.\n \n*SIGN UPS DOWN BELOW*\n \nIn this workshop we will demonstrate our favorite approaches to setting up and maintaining cost-conscious DIY waterwise water features and habitat-providing bird baths for home landscapes. It truly is “if you build it\, they will come.” \nIf you choose to create a recirculating water feature\, the sound of that water will also help mask the background urban noise in your outdoor space while providing a sense of psychological cooling in a low-water garden! \nWe will also show you how to keep each feature clean and how to ensure they do not become habitat for mosquitoes. \nParticipants will see how we make and maintain: \n\nBubbling rock water features\nFountain-in-a-pot water features\nWater trough aquatic garden water features\nCeramic dish bird baths\n\nEach participant will be able to select a native wildflower seed packet of their choice to take home. \nAfter the workshop concludes\, for those who wish to stay\, we will be offering a raffle give-away of some of our favorite waterwise California native plants. Please bring water\, a hat\, sunblock\, etc. as appropriate for the weather. \nEach participant will be able to select a native wildflower seed packet of their choice to take home. \nAfter the workshop concludes\, for those who wish to stay\, we will be offering a raffle give-away of some of our favorite waterwise California native plants. We will also tell you a bit about each one\, why it is one of our favorites\, and the garden situations in which it is likely thrive. Our Waterwise Community Nursery will also be open for shopping from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. \nOur instructor for this workshop will be George Jimenez\, Horticulture Lead and Conservation Specialist here at Chino Basin Water Conservation District and the Waterwise Community Center. George has been active in diverse roles in the horticulture industry for 20 years\, leading everything from high-end golf course landscape management to native landscape construction and specialized care of California native and waterwise gardens. He holds multiple industry certificates through Mt. San Antonio College and also leads the hands-on garden volunteer program at CBWCD.
