DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk through our demonstration garden looking at the key principles of garden design\n\n\nJoin us for a walk through our demonstration garden looking at the key principles of garden design including: \n \n· Choosing the right plant for the right place \n· Layering and building visual depth with plantings \n· Aesthetic aspects of planting design\, including working with color\, texture\, and massing for maximum visual effect \n· Strategically providing shade with plantings \n· Much more along the way! \n \nEach participant will be able to select a native wildflower seed packet of their choice to take home. \nAfter the workshop concludes\, for those who wish to stay\, we will be offering a raffle give-away of some of our favorite waterwise California native plants. We will also tell you a bit about each one\, why it is one of our favorites\, and the garden situations in which it is likely thrive. \nAll day we will have a variety of our favorite native or waterwise plants for sale at our Waterwise Community Nursery. Get a jump on fall planting or browse while you are inspired to plan for later in the season. \nOur instructor for this workshop will be Scott Kleinrock\, Conservation Programs Manager here at Chino Basin Water Conservation District and the Waterwise Community Center. Scott has been working in horticulture for almost 20 years\, focused on both the design and \nongoing care of sustainable native or edible landscapes in Southern California at the residential and public garden scales. He has a master’s degree in landscape architecture for Cal Poly Pomona and was previously the Landscape Design and Planning Coordinator at the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens.

SUMMARY:Installation and Establishment of California Native or Waterwise Gardens
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to properly install your new landscape and get your garden off to a healthy start!\n\n\nChoosing great plants and a great design are important\, but that is only part of what you need to succeed with a landscape project. \nEqually important is preparing your site\, installing everything properly\, and caring for your plants correctly during the critical “establishment” period. Join us for this workshop and learn how to set yourself up for success! \nIn this workshop we will cover: \n· The steps to install a new landscape\, and the order in which to take them on \n· Preparing your site \n· Irrigation installation\, as it relates to project installation (for more details on irrigation systems\, attend our other irrigation-focused workshops) \n· Basics of “grading” (digging and moving soil) to capture water in features like dry stream beds (for more details\, attend our “Rainwater Harvesting for Home Landscapes” workshop) \n· Plant layout and installation \n· Cleanup\, mulching\, and final installation details \n· Garden “establishment”: how to care for and water plantings in their critical first years to transition them into their new homes and set them up to thrive. \nThis workshop will be held partially outdoors\, so please check the weather and dress appropriately. Please bring water\, a hat\, sunblock\, etc. as appropriate for the weather. \nEach participant will be able to select a native wildflower seed packet of their choice to take home. \nAfter the workshop concludes\, for those who wish to stay\, we will be offering a raffle give-away of some of our favorite waterwise California native plants. DESCRIPTION:Keep your garden healthy and looking great by learning what to do and when!\n\n\nJoin us in the Waterwise Community Center’s beautiful public garden for a discussion and demonstration of the most important seasonal activities to care for your waterwise or California native garden. He holds multiple industry certificates through Mt. San Antonio College and also leads the hands-on garden volunteer program at CBWCD.

DESCRIPTION:Discover the perfect waterwise or CA native plants for growing in pots\, and learn what to do to make sure they thrive!\n\n\nThere are so many great waterwise or native plant choices perfect for growing in pots on patios\, balconies\, or anywhere growing in the ground is not an option. Container gardens can have dazzling beauty\, lots of color\, and provide resources for hummingbirds\, butterflies\, and pollinators. \nBut\, growing these plants in containers requires a very different approach than growing in the ground\, and there are many choices that will either set you up for success or ensure you are in for a struggle. \nIn this workshop we will teach you how to help your waterwise or native container plantings thrive by covering: \n· Top waterwise or native plant choices for containers \n· Choosing pots and other container options \n· Choosing potting soil \n· Watering by hand and setting up a container drip irrigation system \n· How much sun?
