We will explore all about water\, nature and the environment and then have a fun activity to make crafts or explore the garden. \nAGES: All ages are welcome! SUMMARY:Waterwise Gardening for Pollinators
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk and talk in our demonstration garden to learn how to use colorful plants to support native bees and other pollinators!\n \n*SIGN UPS DOWN BELOW*\n \nWe will also discuss other habitat features to support native bees and other pollinators. They need our help\, and you can make a difference in your yard! \nParticipants will learn: \n\nOur favorite native plants and plant combinations for year-round blooms to support pollinators\nSpecial ways to support “ground nesting” native pollinators\nDIY projects to create nesting locations for “cavity nesting” pollinators\nAbout our other resources including garden design templates for native pollinator gardens\n\n \nEach participant will be able to select a native wildflower seed packet of their choice to take home. \nAfter the workshop concludes\, for those who wish to stay\, we will be offering a raffle give-away of some of our favorite waterwise California native plants. We will also tell you a bit about each one\, why it is one of our favorites\, and the garden situations in which it is likely thrive. \nOur instructor for this workshop will be Scott Kleinrock\, Conservation Programs Manager here at Chino Basin Water Conservation District and the Waterwise Community Center. \n \nScott has been working in horticulture for almost 20 years\, focused on both the design and ongoing care of sustainable native or edible landscapes in Southern California at the residential and public garden scales. He has a master’s degree in landscape architecture for Cal Poly Pomona and was previously the Landscape Design and Planning Coordinator at the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens.

SUMMARY:Grow Your Own Waterwise and Native Pollinator Supporting Plants from Seed
DESCRIPTION:Join us in our Demonstration Garden for a hands-on workshop on seed harvesting and growing favorite waterwise native plants from seed.\n \n*SIGN UPS DOWN BELOW*\n \nLearn how to properly collect\, store\, and grow some of our favorite easy-to-grow native and waterwise plants to support your garden and local ecosystems—without breaking the bank and with minimal supplies. \nIn this class\, we will cover: \n\nIdentifying mature seeds ready for collection\nProper techniques for collecting and cleaning seeds\nBest practices for storing seeds for future planting\nHow to propagate different types of native plant seeds\nHands-on milkweed seed planting to take home\n\n \nEach participant will collect seeds from spent spring wildflower blooms in our demonstration garden and take them home for future planting. Additionally\, all participants will pot native milkweed seeds in starter packs to take home\, helping to support monarch butterflies. \nHarvesting and propagating seeds is an essential skill for any gardener looking to grow native plants and support local pollinators. Understanding when and how to collect seeds\, how to store them properly\, and how to start new plants from seed can ensure long-term success in your landscape. \nImportant: Portions of this workshop will take place outdoors in the sun. Please dress accordingly\, including wearing a hat and sun protection. \nAfter the workshop\, for those who wish to stay\, we will be offering a raffle giveaway of some of our favorite waterwise and California native plants\, along with insights on where they thrive best in the garden. \nOur instructor for this workshop will be Ashley Alfaro\, Conservation Landscaper here at Chino Basin Water Conservation District and the Waterwise Community Center. She holds a bachelor’s degree in plant science and is a QWEL-certified irrigation professional. Ashley has professional experience in plant production and horticulture and with a focus on California native plants. As a science communicator\, she equips the community with the knowledge and confidence to implement waterwise plants into their landscapes through workshops and educational content on platforms such as Instagram and YouTube.
