Description
Learn how to envision what you want out of your home landscape and put together a plan to make it happen.
Our instructor for this workshop will be Scott Kleinrock, Conservation Programs Manager here at Chino Basin Water Conservation District and the Waterwise Community Center.
Scott has been working in horticulture for almost 20 years, focused on both the design and ongoing care of sustainable native or edible landscapes in Southern California at the residential and public garden scales. He has a master’s degree in landscape architecture for Cal Poly Pomona and was previously the Landscape Design and Planning Coordinator at the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens.
Design is often seen as the most mysterious part of working with landscapes, but it does not need to be that way. In this workshop, we will explore a new and approachable way to develop designs for beautiful, productive, habitat rich, and maintainable landscape projects.
Whether you plan to do the work yourself or work with a contractor, this workshop will help you come up with a clear vision for your outdoor spaces. The principles you will learn will apply to any space and any style!
We will cover:
-Project Planning and Concept Development
-Site Analysis
-Goal-Setting, and Using Goals to Drive Design
-Conceptual and Detailed Design
-Basics of Habitat Design for Humans and Beneficial Wildlife
-Basics of Design for Capturing Rainwater
-Developing a Plant Palette
-Basic Planting Design
-Construction Planning
Each participant will be able to select a native wildflower seed packet of their choice to take home.
After the workshop concludes, for those who wish to stay, we will be offering a raffle give-away of some of our favorite waterwise California native plants. We will also tell you a bit about each one, why it is one of our favorites, and the garden situations in which it is likely thrive.
