Billy Mercado is a Programs Educator II, and has been with Chino Basin Water Conservation District for over 5 years. He grew up in the Montclair/Ontario area and slowly developed an interest in Environmental Education, which begun when he took his high-school AP Environmental Science course. This interest would lead him to Orange County, where he enrolled in the University of California, Irvine and earned a bachelors in Earth System Science. During Billy’s time at UC Irvine, he dedicated 2 years interning with the Center for Environmental Biology, where he gain meaningful experience in informal education, community science, and native California plant and animal communities. He’s worked alongside other interns and professionals from UC Irvine, the Back Bay Science Center, Davey’s Locker whalewatching, and Crystal Cove Conservancy, who he later joined as a part-time educator before finally joining CBWCD. Billy is proud to serve his community alongside the rest of the District and loves to show others about the importance of water conservation in the face of a changing climate. In his free time, Billy likes to try new foods, take photos of flowers, hang out with friends, and explore different genres of music. |
