Dr. Earyn McGee is a Community Engagement Specialist II for the Chino Basin Water Conservation District. She holds a BSc in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Howard University as well as a MSc and PhD in Natural Resources with an emphasis in Wildlife Conservation and Management from the University of Arizona. Her research focused on two topics: 1) how lizards in southeastern Arizona may be impacted by drought and stream drying through the loss of a potentially important food source, aquatic insects and 2) barriers preventing Black women from entering and remaining in natural resources careers. Her love for informal education began as a graduate student, where she served as a mentor to undergraduate students for the Doris Duke Conservation Scholars program. During this time, she also created her award-winning photo-based science communication game #FindThatLizard where she teaches people about the importance of lizards, ecology, and conservation on social media.
Dr. McGee is excited to use her interdisciplinary background to the district and promote water conservation.
In her off time, Dr. McGee enjoys making pottery, getting out in nature, going to concerts, anime & pop culture conventions, and spending time with her loved ones.
